Luc Hoffmann, l’homme qui s’obstine à préserver la Terre
Entretiens avec Jil Silberstein
Jil Silberstein

With emotion and gratitude, Jil Silberstein shares his extraordinary dialogue with Luc Hoffmann, who, at age 87, looks back on his childhood, his infatuation with nature and his determination to preserve the Earth. Ecological pioneer, Luc Hoffmann, born in Basel (Switzerland) in 1923, is one of the first to have become aware of the planet’s fragility and of threats to the natural world. Both visionary and strong-willed, from 1946 he committed himself to protecting wetlands, territories that play a critical role in our ecosystem as a whole. When queried about his life’s work, this modest man describes the Camargue wetlands in the south of France, and the founding of the Tour du Valat research center in 1954; his involvement in international environmental organizations like WWF and IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature), as well as local ones like the Fondation International du Banc d’Arguin, in West Africa. An entire life spent serving the planet.
