These Memoirs were composed in three parts: the Travel Journal in Siberia, Journal of a Sea Voyage from Kamtchatka peninsula to Canton, China, and Memoirs concerning the Madagascar expedition of 1772. Translated into many languages, and very popular in the 19th century, these Memoirs constitute an exceptional account of the geographic discoveries and the bitter rivalry between the great sea-going powers of the late 18th century.
