Catherine Sayn-Wittgenstein, Countess Razumovsky was born in 1895 in Starostintse. She died in 1983 in Viena. Fourth child of Prince Nicolas Sayn-Wittgenstein, she spent her childhood in Kiev. After the Bolshevik Revolution and the destruction of their home, her whole family fled across Europe, reaching Czernowitz, in Silesia. The author, working as a governess, met there her future husband, the Count Razumovsky. Together, they raised five children in Schönstein Czechoslovakia… until they were caught again by the communist wave and forced to reach Austria.
