Rendez-vous
La psychanalyse de Francois Mitterrand
Ali Magoudi

May 3, 1982:
Hello, this is the office of the President.
Yes?
The President would like to meet you.
What for?”
To start an analysis. He suggests that you come here tomorrow at 9:30. Will that be possible for you? If he wishes to meet me, he has to come to my office.”
It won’t work. In terms of confidentiality, he specifically asked for the appointment to take place here, in his office.
On the contrary, if I go to the Elysée, the secret will be out immediately. My office is located in a private mansion with an underground parking lot. From there, an elevator leads directly to my office. His arrival will go unnoticed, or else it will be taken for a romantic tryst. Let him come at 3:30 tomorrow.

From May, 1982 to June, 1993, psychoanalyst Ali Magoudi was one of French President Mitterrand’s most privileged interlocutors. Tapes were recorded, confidences were engraved in his memory, and, over the course of many travels, comments made for Ali Magoudi’s ears only. What for? A docu-fiction, was the request of the President, who was seeking enlightenment about two issues (as well as certain intimate secrets. Fiction? 99% of it is true.
