For the moment, all you need to know is that on the 18th of May of the Year 3000, the city of South-Pole-Ville, capital of the Southern states, counts 684,051 inhabitants, who live in peace under the paternal government of the Duke of Eagles, enlightened, virtuous protector of an enlightened Republic in which war, taxes, and train strikes are unknown. After Halley’s Comet crashed into the Earth, the planet was covered in ice, whole continents were wiped off the map, and what was left of the world’s population took refuge in the South Pole… Now, on this 18th of May, 3000, an expedition led by the audacious Mr Pudding is undertaking a long voyage aboard the Obus 21, in search of vestiges of the city of Paris…
