Le Démantèlement du coeur
Daniel De Roulet

Max vom Pokk, an architect in New York who is tormented by past loves, comes back to France for a rendezvous with his girlfriend from 40 years ago. He hasn’t seen her since, even though they had a son together, Mirafiori, whom he has lost touch with.
Shizuko Tsutsui was born on the day the bomb flattened her city. So she is confined to a wheelchair. A highly respected scientist, she is overseeing the dismantlement of a nuclear breeder reactor on the banks of the Rhône, in Malville. She, too, is enthusiastic about the upcoming reunion with the father of her son.
But on that very day, March 11, 2011, an earthquake badly damages the nuclear power plant in Fukushima where Mirafiori, Max and Shizuko’s son, has been temping. He was in prison for nine years, and the Mafia owns him now.The catastrophe wreaks havoc on their long-awaited reunion. Shizuko is urgently needed in Japan. Max, devastated and suddenly overwhelmed with remorse, decides to act like the hero he no longer is. Meanwhile Mirafiori is being sent on a suicide mission into the control room of the reactor during meltdown…

Le Démantèlement du cœur, the last volume of La Simulation humaine, a nuclear saga stretching from Hiroshima to Fukushima, describes Max and Shizuko final tryst – over a backdrop of the last (?) nuclear catastrophe.
