• The authors’ backgrounds are complementary, and they are both motivated by a desire to share their knowledge. François Letourneux is well-known in the world of nature conservation (after stints at the head of the Coastal and Lake Bank Conservatory and the French Institute for the Environment, he now heads the French Committee for the International Union for Nature Conservation). Nathalie Fontrel is a journalist at the radio station France Inter, specialized in environmental issues. The illustrator, Agathe Haevermans, is an artist at the National Museum of Natural History.
