I can’t do much. Hardly anything, really, admits the narrator, Archimedes, who refuses offers from the national employment agency because he doesn’t want to join the working poor... With a master’s in philosophy, he’s had one depressing experience in bathroom equipment sales, before getting fired for incompetence and low results .
Currently living on welfare, and the owner in spite of himself of a modest room in Rodebec, a terribly ordinary town whose only claim to fame is its casino, where he accompanies Madame Viviane three times a week to play the one-armed bandits… in exchange for a bribe, as the retired woman puts it. That is where he chances across Chloë, a young woman who will put this work-shy young man on the horns of a dilemma.

Allergic to work, Archimedes is happy not to do anything. His only activity: accompanying Madame Viviane to the casino. In this world will chance is king, why shouldn’t he bet his life on a flip of a coin?
